CLSQ at Hull Law Society: managing title risk in residential and commercial transactions
CLSQ will be speaking at Hull Law Society CPD on Tuesday 15th September 2026, delivering two practical sessions for property lawyers on what to do when a title isn't perfect. Led by Claire Elliott, the sessions look at the title issues that surface during residential and commercial transactions, from restrictive covenants, missing rights and defective leases to inadequate easements, service media and access rights, and development or portfolio title defects, and at how to manage them without putting completion under pressure.
Rather than treating every defect as something to be fixed, the sessions focus on identifying the actual risk and choosing the most practical way to manage it, whether that is rectification, indemnity insurance or another route. Claire will set out what underwriters need in order to assess a risk, when to escalate a complex or time-critical matter early and how legal indemnity cover fits alongside IDD and Consumer Duty obligations.
The aim of both sessions is to educate the audience, giving solicitors greater confidence in reaching a position of certainty for their clients sooner.
